One of our newer features at the farm has quickly become a favorite for young visitors. Have you had a chance to check out our Nature Playscape? Located toward the top of the hill behind the Century Farmhouse, the nature playscape includes boulders, net tunnels, logs, a rope web, mini trail and more! Unlike traditional playgrounds made of plastic and metal, a nature playscape uses natural materials to foster a highly creative, interactive play environment. What looks like a simple hollowed out log to you and I, quickly becomes a rocket ship to Mars, or a house for a family of bunnies, or a mountain to be climbed. For those just beginning to explore our natural surroundings, our nature playscape provides a bridge between something familiar, a “playground”, in the unfamiliar setting of our farm and woodlands.
There is no “right” or “wrong” way to play here. Without even realizing it, the children’s imaginations have them hopping, climbing, running, balancing, crawling and building on all the gross (whole body) motor skills that have been so dormant this past year. It challenges young visitors both physically and mentally as they practice problem solving. “How do I get to the other side of the boulder circle if this jump is too big for me?” Designed to foster imagination and build healthier bodies in future generations of nature lovers, the Nature Playscape is a stop you won’t want to miss on your next visit. What are you waiting for? Come play!
